What Happens Between Friends Launch

WHBF frontI’m so excited to be launching the second book of my In Shady Grove series for Superromance! What Happens Between Friends is out now 🙂 Here’s a look at the back cover copy:

Friends…with benefits?

For Sadie Nixon, life is one big adventure with something new around the corner. And anytime she needs a break, she can always rely on James Montesano—the best guy she knows. This time when she arrives in Shady Grove, however, something is different. There’s a little extra between her and James that has them crossing the line of friendship into one steamy, no-holds-barred night.

Afterward, no matter how hard she tries, Sadie can’t erase the memories of James that way. He’s so hot, so tempting…. But his life is here and hers isn’t. She needs his friendship, but she doesn’t do commitment. So where does that leave them? Suddenly what happens between friends is more complicated than ever!

And here’s a sneak peek of James and Sadie’s first kiss:

“Did you ever wonder?” he asked in that low, not-quite-James-voice. “What it would be like between us?”

A denial would be useless. And a lie. But she couldn’t make herself admit it. Of course she’d thought of it. She was human, wasn’t she? Ever since adolescence, there had been a strong, physical attraction between them, one she’d been all too happy to ignore.

“I have,” he said into the ensuing silence. He placed his other hand on her hip, dragged her flush against him as he leaned down and murmured, “I’ve thought about it a lot.”

And he kissed her.

It was the faintest of touches, the brush of his mouth against hers, as if he was worried she’d bolt or worse, disappear. He eased back, held her gaze for a moment and then settled his mouth on hers again.

Her eyes fluttered closed. She hadn’t known, had never imagined that his kiss would be so potent. That it would inflame her, have desire flicking along her veins like fire, burning hot and bright.

It was over all too soon. They stared at each other, both breathing hard from one simple kiss. And she knew, all she had to do was drop her hands, step back and he’d let her go. That would be the end of it, the end of this—whatever it was. Whatever it could have been.

“I think…” She swept her tongue across her bottom lip, watched as his eyes darkened. “I think I’m about to hit another of those bumps in the road.”

He smiled, the easy smile she loved so. “Mind if I tag along?”

She rose onto her toes, pressing fully against the hard lines of his body, and tangled her fingers in the silky hair at his nape. Stopped when their mouths were so close, her lips brushed against his as she spoke, his mustache tickling her upper lip. “I’m counting on it.”

I had such a great time writing What Happens Between Friends! I love a Friends to Lovers story! Who are some of your favorite Friends to Lovers characters? Mine are Harry and Sally in When Harry Met Sally 🙂

  • Amy Conley says:

When Harry Met Sally is one of the most perfect friends to lovers stories ever. But Forrest Gump is also.
I must admit one of the hottest friends to lovers complication was a real-life one. WOW is all I can say!

  • Amy Conley says:

And dearest GR, I promise, no more threats on my part if you promise no more jinxes on your. Just pure love and pampering from me to you this time, deal?

  • Helen says:

I am so looking forward to reading this one I have it downloaded onto the e reader so it won’t be long I loved the first one in the series 🙂

I am going to have to think on a friends to lovers story I know I have read some but my mind is a blank at the moment I just got home from work and am going into the City tomorrow to have high tea with Julia Quinn and I am so excited

    Congrats on the release

    Have Fun

    • Beth Andrews says:

Thanks, Helen! I hope you enjoy James and Sadie’s story – she was especially fun to write *g*

I just got home from work and am going into the City tomorrow to have high tea with Julia Quinn and I am so excited

How fun!! Hope you have a fabulous time 🙂

    • Have a wonderful time at high tea, Helen! I hope you’ll tell us all about it!

” Mind if I tag along?” ~ I love this excerpt.

When Harry Met Sally is a great movie. One of the last ones I’ve seen. I’ve been to busy reading to watch movies of late. I do love the friends to lovers theme. I like to see how they finally work things out.

    • Beth Andrews says:

      Thanks, Kaelee!

I do love the friends to lovers theme. I like to see how they finally work things out.

Me, too, on both points! There’s so much to lose if things don’t work out which is such a real and big conflict in friends-to-lovers stories 🙂

  • Anna Sugden says:

Wooohooo!! So excited about this book – loving this series and can’t wait to read this one! Particularly since I have my very own signed copy to savour. 🙂 What a wonderful excerpt (happy sigh)

I love the ‘friends to lovers’ trope as that’s the story of my own romance *g*. (another happy sigh). I’m drawing a blank on the films and books with that theme – the only one I can think of is a sort-of friends to lovers theme, though it’s also an enemies to lovers as well, and that’s You’ve Got Mail and the original Shop Around the Corner. The ending to YGM still brings a happy tear to my eye, when Meg Ryan tells Tom Hanks, she hoped her online friend was him. (sniff).

    • Beth Andrews says:

      Thanks, Anna!

Friends to lovers is one of my favorite tropes, too *g* I’d say YGM is a friends to lover story as they are online friends.

Little Sis and I enjoyed Just Friends, one of Ryan Reynolds earlier films – the scenes between Ryan and his younger brother are hilarious!

Oh, and Made of Honor was just on TV the other night. Cute movie!

  • Another Beth Andrews book!!! I’m so excited – and I love that cover.

When Harry met Sally is probably one of my all trime favorites as well. There’s another movie, can’t remember the name, where two friends share an apartment because the woman had to move out of heres. Her new roommate is Hugh Jackman. There was a stupid story line about cows that ran throughout the story, but the ending when the two friends realize that they’re perfect for each other was great.

Friends to lovers make for great stories. Can’t wait to read yours.

  • Happy Launch Day, Beth!!! I love this cover and the set-up and that sexy sneak peek. I can’t wait to read it!

    Ooh, and I don’t have to … I just downloaded it. 🙂

Now I’m stumped, trying to come up with a Friends to Lovers story that hasn’t been mentioned. Hmm. I know I love that hook and I love a lot of authors who’ve used it (Susan Mallery and Kristan Higgins come to mind), but I can’t think of a specific book. It’s still a little early on the west coast so my mind hasn’t clicked into gear yet. Yeah, that’s my excuse. 😉

    Congrats again!!

    • Beth Andrews says:

Thanks, Kate! I hope you enjoy the book *g*

Love Kristan’s The Next Best Thing where the heroine and hero are friends (as well as in-laws *g*) Great story!

  • Hey Beth! Congrats on another great release!!

How about Addicted To Love. Meg Ryan (see a theme running through these?) and Matthew Broderick play two wary conspirators trying to get even with their former lovers. The pair slowly build a relationship and eventually realize their love for each other!

  • Jane says:

Congrats, Beth. The only movie I can think of is Easy A with Emma Stone. The friends to lover s theme is not the main one in the movie, but I think it applies.

  • Hi Beth! Congratulations on another wonderful book hitting the stands. I so enjoy your writing. Friends into lovers is one of my favorite tropes. I think Sarah Mayberry, your fellow SuperRomance author, is a master at that kind of story. She really get sthe poignant of emotion of risking something really valuable in the hope of something deeper and richer – which may not work out. Talk about high stakes!

  • Tawny Weber says:

YAY!!! I’m so so excited about this book. I love it, and adore the heroine so much 😀

My favorite friends to lovers to friends to lovers to friends to lovers are Ross and Rachel 😀 Hands down, adore them. Although Monica and Chandler are a much better example of making it work faster *g*

Congrats on your awesome release, Beth!!!

    • Beth Andrews says:

Thanks, Tawny! You mentioned two of my favorites *g* My favorite Friends couple was definitely Ross and Rachel but I think Chandler and Monica had a bigger friendship/relationship to lose if things didn’t work out 🙂

  • pjpuppymom says:

Congrats on the new book, Beth! I have this one waiting for me on my Kindle.

I love friends to lovers stories. One that has stuck with me is Sarah Mayberry’s HER BEST FRIEND.

  • Yay!!! I love your books and can’t wait to download this one! Congrats, Beth!

  • Woot! Congratulations, Beth! The book sounds fabulous. I love the excerpt.

Friends to lovers? Scully and Mulder on X-Files?
Do Castle & Beckett count, considering there was tension going all along? And definitely King and Maxwell in David Baldacci’s series about them (the TV show doesn’t track the books exactly, so if anybody’s scratching their heads and wondering, I mean the books).

  • I forgot Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore’s characters in Music & Lyrics. Can’t remember the characters’ names.

Anyway, I’m grabbing the book off iBooks immediately. Congrats again!

  • Hi Beth! Congratulations on yet another brilliant release. I love the excerpt!

Adore friends to lovers stories. There’s that awful angst about being close but not close enough that gets me every time. One wonderful FTL story is Julia Quinn’s When He was Wicked. My fave book of hers! The hero just longs for the heroine for so long and finally gets her. It’s a triumphant finish!

Woot, Beth! Huge congrats on this newest! I love a good friends-to-lovers story! And I did love When Harry Met Sally 😉 One of my favorites is Anything for You, by Sarah Mayberry 🙂
