They never really leave…

So, I moved into my new house July 28th. I thought it would be a great house for my 15 year old, two cats and me. It has three small bedrooms for the two of us and one that I plan to use as my office. Not even a week after I moved in, my 20 year old told me he wants to move back in with me so he can go back to school full time. Sigh. This after he’d been so eager to move out in May and live with friends. His idea then was to find a full time job and go to school part time.
Now in the midst of emptying boxes and trying to fit too much stuff into a small house, I have to get a contractor over to build a room in the basement for him. I love him dearly but I really could have used a month or two before doing this. Of course, I can’t complain because I really want him in school full time. In the meantime, he’ll be sleeping on a mattress in my someday office.
My sister did warn me that they keep coming back home.
But at least I have the majority of boxes put away. I’ve found a place for most of my things and decided I need to get rid of a lot of stuff I just don’t need any more. The biggest mess is my office right now. I need to sit down and get rid of papers that can be recycled or shredded. I think this may be good for me. Perhaps even therapeutic.
The pictures of the house are from the realtor’s site. But my furniture’s really not that different. My sofa is also green. And yes, the cats have settled in.
So, have you had adult children come back to live with you after they had left? Has anyone embraced the minimalistic live style? Should I chuck it all? I can’t do that. I still have my proofs from my first book. I don’t want to get rid of them!
