The Blog According to Cricket

Meooooooowwwwww….
That’s kitty cat for good morning! My Mama, Joanie fell asleep in one of her numerous nap attacks yesterday. She’s been pretty tired taking care of me and my brother Grayson…oh, yeah and working, writing, cleaning but mostly…it’s about us
So I thought I’d do her a favor and man the blog today. Let’s see, let’s see….what should we talk about? I know!
CATS!
Well, pets in general I guess but really mainly about felines. We’re a pretty diverse group, ranging from pure bred snobs…er, I mean breeds to the hardier and let’s face it, CUTER domestics. I myself am a beautiful gray tabby and I’ve earned my stripes. The pest aka Grayson the Monkey Cat, is solid dark gray and occasionally flaunts his Siamese roots. (Rowwr….rowwr…rowwr) Ok, ok…knock it off.
Sheesh!
We’ve got a pretty wonderful life here in Kentucky with Mama. She THOUGHT she was choosing us when she decided two years ago she needed entertainment. Ha! I had her pegged from the moment she walked through the door! One look at my “smile” and she was mine. Her and I were getting along great and then….and then….HE came along. Didn’t know what to make of him at first….little hairball. But he was persistent. Despite my authoritative stalking and pouncing he would bound back and roll around begging to play. (Shrugs) Ya get used to it so now I give him an occasional complimentary ear grooming…just to play nice.

Hello there Ma'm. Want to take me home?
Our days are rough…..Stare at birds. Nap. Eat. Nap. Jump on things Mama doesn’t want us to…look at her adoringly till the chastising words dissolve into “Gah, you’re so cute” and an ear rub. Then it’s more napping, chasing a felt mouse (they don’t run very fast). Visit the facilities. Cover it REAL good in case that stray coyote wanders into the house and smells it. And wrap it all up with a nap.
It’s not all self serving. We help Mama a lot. We help her with her writing. You think it’s all a coincidence that three of her manuscripts have cats in them? This last one’s a pip named Pooka….he’s a Cat Sidhe who can do more then twitch his whiskers. He assigns himself Aine’s protector. Yeah, wouldn’t want to meet him in a dark alley. Watch out gnomes!

The pest, diving into the story
We felines also have great intuitive powers and have our paws on the pulse of popular culture. We tell it like it is with one facial expression, one trill, one WTH howl. So, to enrich mankind’s understanding of life, we started our own network of informational pictures. Take a look at some of these:

We say what you can’t

We can be very dramatic!
What every writer feels at one time or another
So the Monkey and I would like to hear from you all…rather, we’d like to hear from your pets. Any kind of pet is fine (we reserve the right to chase any rodent species, reptiles etc. and canines will have to check their bark at the doors) What are you helping your Mom or Dad with today? How’d you all meet? Tuna or Salmon?

Poor Mama.....

LOL!!! Excellent job, Cricket! We don’t have any self-animated pets in our house, but we have scads of furry “animal friends” that we um… animate for the kids
Hee!
Fedora, wasn’t it fun to meet Cricket? I wonder how he’d get on with the chook!
Well Anna SHE would get along fine with it…it’s the Monkey Cat who would give him a run for his money
Congrats on a “pet for the day”….that GR is pretty animated.
I DO hope one of these creatures IS a cat!
Hi ther, my name is Little Miss Stevie. Mum got me from a pet store thats closed now. i’m not good at speling but my mesage gets acros.
i turnd 7 on 30 april and thats when i came into Mums house. she took a cage into the pet store at woodrwridge and pointed to-me. she called me ‘tha sleepy one’ and got more than that. but i was a boy first and got into a fight with anotha budgie who tried to make my cage his and i grabbd his beak and tried to pull it off! he was a fowlmouthd birdie and never liked me agin.
Mum has seeen me through a backterial crop infecktion and a soar throat and me pulling my pin feathers out ( thay are feathers that are in my back that maik me look pretty) from stress. every day she turns on the radio to rock station and leaves me alone. i love singing to the ‘sporting bet’ and pub ads, the music is fun. my favourite band is Queen and U2 and Red Hot Chili Peppers and Vivaldi.
Mum gives me cuddles and kissess at night whiol i’m in her hand on my back going to sleep. whiol she’s doing that, she is watching television. its been such a long time since weave been togetha that i dont bite her anymore; insted we are good friends. she feeds me lots of my favourit food – millet spray and baby spinich – and in summer she sprays me with wata… fun!
Oh boy! this i’m so tired now. this is the longest i’ve ever tiped on the computa! better go!
Little Miss Stevie
(aka: Little Miss Fluffly-bums)
Awww Fluffy Bums….catchy name.
Sounds like your Mama is great…sorry about the pin feathers. I sometimes pull fur out from my bum and leave in little pods for my Mom…she worries…..
I deckorate the chrissmass tree with my feathers and fluff from my bum. mum didnt notic until last year wen we had to put it somewhere diffrent and half the tree had my bumm fluff all down one side of it. it funny as bird seed.
Cricket, you are a very handsome fellow. I can see why your human JT says such nice things about you! When you’re not causing CATastrophes, that is! Love the pictures you chose too – lovely smiles to start my day!
Meows from Cambridge, Cricket! Jersey Girl here . Okay, okay … and CC too. (jeez younger sisters are a pain!)
We have a busy life here, especially now it’s summer. It’s been great ever since we came over to England and we can go outside all the time. We love being out in Mum and Dad’s garden. The redcurrant bush is the perfect place to keep an eye on things (especially birds!).
We help out by catching mice and bringing them home, but Mum usually sets them free again. *shakes head* strange human behaviour. I understand why she does that with the worms CC catches, but a prime mouse …!
I provide Mum help with her writing by sitting on her lap and sending her ideas through my thoughts … unlike CC who likes to sit in front of the screen and watch the cursor (Note from CC – hey, I’m helping to edit!).
Bye for now – our cosy beds in the sunny conservatory are calling.
Waves paw at budlets in Cambridge!!!!
You’re lucky…..our Mom would go whacko if we got a real mouse. You should see her when we zoom in on a creepy crawly. She screams “Don’t eat it, don’t eat it!”
I’m snuggled against her right now. You see, I was taken away from my Mama too young (sniff) and find comfort only when suckling on her shirt…..they say I’ll never out grow it. Sigh
Hi, Cricket–our dog refuses to comment as she is a large dog and her paws don’t work well on a keyboard. Her days are mostly spent sleeping, with breaks for chasing what she calls “little evil things” (trespassing birds, squirrels, and rabbits) in the yard and supervising any and all kitchen activity.
She likes to go on short errands like Office Depot runs or jaunts to the video rental place but has been known to call shotgun if left in the car more than, oh, thirty seconds. Since she is far too big to ride in a bucket seat and thinks the center console is far too tall to traverse when going from front to back, returning her to her assigned space requires getting her out if the car, whereupon she tugs the leash in an effort to explore the area.
An ongoing source of frustration for her is her inability to supervise grocery shopping, as she feels we buy too many things that are not meat.
Saying hello to large meat craving canine in NC…..
So much fun hearing from Cricket! And I never get tired of that zombie picture. That kitten cracks me up *g*
My older daughter’s bf’s cat had kittens which are now old enough to play with so they’ve been having a lot of fun with them, especially the one they’ve named Katniss
Purrrrrr….good people that take care of kittehs.
I hope WonderBeth & Co. are going to take in Katniss…..
I’m sorry, Cricket, but I currently have a no pet house. However, if I did, I’d totally have a cat. You guys are just so gosh-darn cute, even if you have no understanding about sleeping past 5 am and have a need to attack sleeping feet.
And I have a preference for tabbies. Tabbies are the prettiest of the kitties.
If I did have a Tabby, I would have both salmon AND tuna on hand because I know variety is the spice of life.
Head butts Hellion….Tabbies ARE the best!
Sorry to have been absent, Mama had a full day staying with a friend whose canine baby dog had to go to vet. He must have surgery tomorrow so say prayers for the pup. Kitty prayers are VERY powerful
Cute post, Joanie — or should I say “Cricket”?
I love cats and yours are just darling. Cute piccies too.
We are currently watching Charlie, a darling labradoodle who’s the cutest dog I’ve ever seen. I may not give him back to my daughter when they return from Disneyland.
JoMama…you are getting sleepy…you are wanting pet…..you are wanting prime kitty OR…pup.
Greetings, Kentucky Kitties! It’s Pookie and Splinters waving paws at you from way out here in Cat-ifornia!! Finally, here’s a sensible blog we can sink our claws into! You struck the purrrrrfect chord for us.
Our human, Kate, keeps introducing new cats into her mysteries. Not sure why since we live right next door and can always provide plenty of entertainment. But, you know, at least she doesn’t bring any dogs around. Whew.
Right now Kate’s working on something new and sure enough, there’s a cat named Bootsie who’s providing some interesting twists to the plot. Oh, I agree *Bootsie* is not a very dignified name for a noble cat, but that’s a human for you.
Hope you’ll blog regularly from now on, Cricket. We’d love to keep up on the latest cat goings-on in your part of the world. And thanks for including your piccies. You (and okay, Grayson, too) look extremely intelligent, which … well, it goes without saying. You ARE a cat, after all.
Bootsie??? Ah, these humans. We are just glad Mama did not name us Binky like she did this stray fellow last year…tried to muscle in on our kibble……Ha!
We just don’t understand what is so funny about these lolcats pictures – mom spends way too much time looking at them and lol. She should be spending her time paying attention to us. That’s we we like to sit on her keyboard and take up more of her chair than she does!!!
LOL LOL LOL
“That’s why we” sigh – do you know how hard it is to type without thumbs!!!
Fun post. I don’t have any pets right now unless you count my Pinterest board called Adorable Animals.
And I’ve gotten tons of laughs since LOLCats came into existence.
Nick here…excuse me my full name is Nikoli, not that anyone calls me that. I’m currently determined to keep my mama’s copy edits from printing out. She’s getting rather annoyed at me when I lay down in front of the paper thing. I think she needs more wine. Or maybe some catnip. Gotta go, she’s about to boot me to the floor. Time to find my brother Maks and mess up his fur.
It is fun messing with their fur isn’t it Nicki…May I call you Nicki? (Bats whiskers in the general direction of Maryland). Want to share a jar of caviar?
Hi Cricket! Rachel and Cassy here. We don’t normally converse with cats (we much prefer chasing them) but our mom says we have to play nice since your mom and our mom are friends. And since she’s the one who feeds us…well, we’re sure you understand.
We like to take our mom on long walks and keep her company when she drives to the bank and the pharmacy. They have nice people there who smile at us and give us treats. We’ve learned to be real good when we go to a drive-thru.
We like long trips too like when we go stay with our friends in Charlotte. We sit in the back seat and sleep so we don’t bother mom while she’s driving. Oh, and Mom always remembers to give Cassy her medicine so she doesn’t upchuck all over the car. She’s prone to car sickness you understand, something Mom apparently found out the hard way.
