That Infamous Deserted Island

Let’s play a game, shall we.

I’m going to pretend everyone shouted “Yes!” just now, and didn’t groan.  island

You’re stranded on a deserted island for a month.  We’ll call it a vacation, since there are no chores, no phones, no electronics, no responsibilities.  It sounds kinda cool, huh?   The basics are provided (water, fruit, veggies and your protein of choice, shelter, sunscreen and all the sarongs you want to wear)

island 5

You only get to bring five things, one from each of the following categories:

  • A form of caffeine (remember, chocolate is caffeine)
  • A single author’s books (but you get their entire library of everything they’ve written)
  • One snack (remember, you’ll be eating this same snack every day for a month)
  • The magic island seashell plays only one song when you hold it to your ear – you can pick whatever song (by whatever artist) you’d like
  • One person –any person– to share your month with.  For the sake of this little fantasy, lets pretend we’re all single (just in case your one person was of the opposite sex and a hunky movie star like Johnny Depp.  Oh wait, he’s on my island. Sorry 😉 )  island bench

So… what’d you choose for each category?  And how long do you think you’d last before you were bored crazy?

    • Tawny Weber says:

Helen, you brave woman, you! Taking that naughty rooster to your readers luncheon is going to be fun 😀 He’ll flirt, eat your dessert and drink the bar dry!

      Have fun 😉

  • Alyn says:

    1. Hazelnut Iced Coffee
    2. Jude Deveraux
    3. Brownie bites
    4. Elements by Lindsey Stirling
    5. Superman. He can always fly me off the island once I get bored.

    • Tawny Weber says:

LOL Alyn – GREAT thinking on Superman and his super rescue abilities! But… which superman? Comic book or movie?

Mmmm, btw, on the ice cream. That’d be yummy while lounging in the sand!
edited to add OMG LOL I mistakenly read that as Hazelnut ice cream, not iced coffee. Okay, that still sounds delish 🙂

  • Tawny, what a fun quiz. I particularly love the idea of a whole month off – I don’t really care who else is on the island. Well, maybe not an axe murderer. He can stay away!

    1. Coffee ice-cream
    2. M.C. Beaton (I’ve just discovered her wonderful Regencies and she also writes cozy mysteries so there’s a huge backlist)
    3. Smith’s barbecue chips
    4. Happy by Pharrell Williams
    5. Tom Hiddlestone – he looks like a man with a big repertoire in….conversation!

    • Tawny Weber says:

      Foanna, Great choices! I love a man with a big… repertoire 😉

Mmmm, a whole month off. I think I might love that even more. Especially with ice cream!

  • Mozette says:

A form of caffeine (remember, chocolate is caffeine)

it would have to be chocolate and coffee… can’t live without both.

A single author’s books (but you get their entire library of everything they’ve written)

Jasper Fforde… I just discovered his work and love it! 😀

One snack (remember, you’ll be eating this same snack every day for a month)

Cashews… full of calcium and delicious! 😀

The magic island seashell plays only one song when you hold it to your ear – you can pick whatever song (by whatever artist) you’d like

Shake Your Groove Thing by Peach and Herb

One person –any person– to share your month with. For the sake of this little fantasy, lets pretend we’re all single (just in case your one person was of the opposite sex and a hunky movie star like Johnny Depp. Oh wait, he’s on my island. Sorry 😉 )

    Ethan Hawke… yummy… 😀

    • Tawny Weber says:

Now I’m imagining you and Ethan Hawke shaking your groove thing on the island, Mozette 😀

      • Mozette says:

But isn’t he scrummy, though? 😛

I’ve been watching ‘Before Sunrise’ and ‘Before Sunset’…. and I have on order ‘Before Midnight’ … he’s in all those movies and he’s also in ‘Gattica’. A great movie star who isn’t really in the limelight, but has a great personality, and a wonderful smile. 😀

  • Tawny, what a fun game! There are days when a desert island seems very appealing.

For caffeine, I’ll go with iced ginger peach tea–need something cool in the heat.

It’s tough to pick one author. To Kill a Mockingbird is my alltime ever favorite, but it’s also Harper Lee’s entire canon, and I think I want a long backlist for a month. So Georgette Heyer, I think. Can’t go wrong with Heyer.

Snacks…hmm. Chocolate chip cookies go well with iced tea. If I can’t have those on account of the caffeine restriction, Scotch shortbread.

Music is another tough choice, but I’ll go with an old favorite, Neil Diamond’s Song Sung Blue. Though Jimmy Buffett might be better for an island holiday.

One person to hang with…I can’t pick. Too many choices, and I have to get rolling. I’m going to ConCarolinas today.

  • Shannon says:

One of the smooth European blends–Gevalia maybe

Carla Kelly. She has a huge back list and I haven’t had a chance to read them all, but I like the four I have read.

    Toberlone White Choclate.

    Mozart’s Requiem Mass

One person. Perhaps my Mom since her days are numbered and I cherish every moment we get.

  • OH, no, Tawny, you’re making me think way too early!!

    1. Caffeine: Milky Way Dark Chocolates.
    2. Author: Julie Garwood. Love to re-read her work
    3. Chili Cheese Fritos
    4. Smooth by Santana
    5. Kevin Costner…he’s aging nicely, is articulate and loves Baseball…I mean a whole month…I’m gonna need some conversation, people! 🙂

  • Debbie Oxier says:

Diet Coke. Marie Force. Popcorn. Clocks by Coldplay. Chris Hemsworth.

  • Jo Robertson says:

Great idea, Tawny. I have to say, though, that I’d go alone; I’d like some me-time and NO music. The sound of the sea and birds would be enough for me.

1- Pepsi as my caffeine as long as I could have lots of ice with it.

    2- Anne Perry’s books. I’ve started re-reading them anyway,

    3. Snack? Well, I dunno because I’m a variety gal! Some kind of variety pack candies I guess.

  • catslady says:

    Love games:

    Freshly ground black coffee
Nora Roberts because she has a huge back list.
    Pizza
    Blue Hawaii by Elvis Presley
    Nathan Fillion

  • cheri says:

    1) iced chocolate/raspberry coffee
    2) John Grisham (depending on Hugh for the romance)
    3) M&Ms
    4) Austin by Blake Shelton (sure we couldn’t have the whole play list like all the books by the author?)
    5) Hugh Jackman

Pretty sure I’d only last a couple of weeks–well depending on Hugh.

  • Tracey Parker says:

    Oh great questions!
    1. Dark chocolate, love it! Not a big soda or coffee drinker
    2. Stephanie Laurens. Her books got me back into reading.
    3. I have been on an uncrustables kick lately lol
    4. Wharf Rat by Grateful Dead
    5. Kellan Lutz, oh so handsome!

Not sure how long I would last lol be a nice break from kids but I would miss hubby and kids!
    Thsnks for the fun questions!

  • Cool quiz !!

    1. Milo’s Sweet Iced Tea

    2. Either Georgette Heyer or Stephanie Laurens. Both have HUGE backlists.

    3. My Mom’s potato chip cookies!

    4. Ralph Vaughn Williams – Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis.

    5. Joe Manganiello. Google him. I think that will answer any questions.

  • flchen1 says:

Hmm… that sounds too good to be true, Tawny! A whole month away to be with a chunk of my TBR??? 😉 Let’s see…

    – chocolate, for sure 😉
    – One author? This one’s a toughie, but I’ve got a month with her canon, right? I’m trying to decide whose backlist I’ve not yet explored but want to–maybe Lavryle Spencer or Dorothy Garlock, or Marie Force or Lisa Kleypas. They all seem to have enough to keep me busy for a bit…
    – The snack’s a tricky one–can’t decide between salty (chips!) or sweet (gummies!)
    – Something classical… the New World Symphony maybe?
    – Gotta go with DH–a month vacation to hang out and reconnect? I’m sold 😉
