Must Haves

So, it’s been a rough couple of weeks at work. I’m determined not to whine around about it here on the blog…and if I drink enough wine, I should be successful πŸ™„

I’ve been thinking. What are the top 5 things you can NOT do without? I’ll start us off:

1. Chocolate. Dark Chocolate. LOTS of Dark chocolate. It really does work, those little chocolate chemicals can lift you up or at least smile like a goon when you’re feeling down. I’m now on my 10th transfusion of it this week πŸ˜† Dark

2. Pedicures. I may have alluded here that I’m currently on a tight budget. But I will scrimp and save and sell used cat toys to have the money for these. I can deal with anything if my toes are pretty! πŸ˜‰

3. Cooking Channel. I recently got this Food Network clone with my new AT&T service. It’s revved up my baking genes again and I’m contemplating cookies and cakes. For me….made with dark chocolate…for me…with my pretty toes propped up for ME!

4. My baby cats. Yep, after hellacious work days I come home to warm, purring babies curled in my lap…stretching out THEIR toes and splaying the claws into my bare feet. 😯

babies

Β  5. Last, but not least, my friends. Here, there and everywhere. Without youΒ Β to bolster me I couldn’t get through the day….and if you send me chocolate it’ll even be better.friends

What about you? What are your top 5 things to get you through each day? A randomly drawn winner will win an e-copy only (Kindle, Nook or Kobo) of The Patrician.

Oh, and Diet Coke. Enough said

    3. Coffee
    4. My friends no way could I do without them
    5. My kindle loaded with so many books that I can lose myself in

    Hugs

    Have Fun
    Helen

    • Joan Kayse says:

Ahhh Helen..the dream of being able to walk out! Sigh….

Guess I’ll just invest in large backs of dark chocolate M & M’s

I don’t have grandchildren per se, but have lots of little munchkins in my life…they really make things better!

  • Shannon says:

    1. Pedicures (it is so nice to see something pretty in the shower or peeking out of a shoe.
    2. Good medical professionals.
    3. The internet/phone (Comcast took that away last week from Thurs until Sat)
    4. My friends
    5. Books (Kindle)

    • Joan Kayse says:

You’re so right Shannon..it is nice to see pretty, pretty toes with your sandals. I’ve been stepping out of my polish pink comfort zone and in the past year tried, lavender, deep blue (with sparkles) and gulp…even red!

  • Debbie Oxier says:

Can’t get through a day without a Diet Coke with lots of ice. Chocolate is another must, something you and I agree on. Reading, even if it’s only a chapter. I have to, at some point, sit down with a good book. My kitty cats ( I have four) who are all spoiled rotten and get lots of lovin’ every day. Last, but certainly not least, I have to communicate with my daughters at least once during the day. Sometimes it’s difficult with my youngest as she is a nurse and works twelve hour shifts.

  • Joan Kayse says:

How lovely to have cats AND daughters. Squeeze that nurse one tight, rub her feet, ply her with said chocolate and agree with her when she tells you how crazy it is.

Having the baby cats come sit on me is calming but at the rate work is going, I’ll need about a dozen more

  • Sorry work is getting you down – but RWA is just around the corner. You’ll be partying in San Antonio before you know it.

    My five:
    1. Diet Dr. Pepper
    2. Cookies/ice cream
    3. long walks – with or without the husband but preferably with.
    4. Coco kitty – she’s not the most affectionate of cats but she’s always close by. If I move to another room, she will trot after me. It’s comforting.
    5. my iPad. My laptop is for work, but if I’m not away from home, my ipad is for stress relief. I play sudoku on it and read books. If I’m traveling, it’s my connection to the internet and my manuscript. Love that.

  • Ah, Joanie, I feel your pain. I despise my job and it gets more hectic and demanding every day. They are trying to get more and more work out of less and less people. Sigh.

    1. My friends, most of whom live far away, but I
keep in touch with them every day via the
internet so they keep me going, make me
laugh and convince me to keep writing.

2.The internet, for the reason above and for
    entertainment, shopping, research and a
    thousand other little things.

    3. Chocolate. Sometimes it is the only thing
that keeps me from starring on an episode
    of SNAPPED !!

4, My dogs and my cat, Miss Rebecca Marie.
After the worst day at work they are always
glad to see me. They make me feel like I
can do no wrong after a day being told I
    can’t do anything right!

    5. Books! I love movies and music, but books
are and will always be my first love.

  • Deb says:

    Hi, Joanie.

    In no certain order:
    -Milk chocolate (I crave it!)
-My husband and daughter and my family.
-Two or three fried eggs for breakfast each morning. (We go through lots of eggs each week.)
-Facebook—yes, I’m a junkie, and I like to keep up with friends and their events.
    -Reading.
    -Many other things, too……

  • My five MUST HAVES:

    1. Diet Coke. I drink no other kind of caffeine, so. Must. Have.

    2. Chocolate. Motto in my house. Chocolate or homicide…you decide!

    3. Afternoon nap. Comes from working 25 years of nights. But nothing feels better than that nap!

    4. Warm socks in winter. Love soft, warm socks on a cold winter, fall or spring day!

    5. Long phone conversations with my mom or friends!! πŸ™‚ You know who you are!

    • Okay, after reading Donna’s post, I have to add my iPad to my list. Yep. I play Bejeweled Blitz on it, listen to music while I write. It’s my internet connection when away from home. Can write scenes on it…and now I can read AND listen to books on it. Oh yeah, and if I’m in a hotel room or at Mom’s I play white noise like the ocean waves on it so I can sleep!

    • Oh….BACON!

      Enough said.

      • Joan Kayse says:

LOL…are you sure it’s enough Suz???

Bacon. I ADORE bacon…hate to cook it…but love to eat it.

Went to a big powwow meeting about conditions at work..on my day off. Am now going to enjoy another must have…movie popcorn

  • pjpuppymom says:

(((Joanie))) I’m so sorry work is getting you down. Never fear. As Donna said, RWA fun is just around the corner. And I’ll be bringing a bag of treats to perk you up! πŸ™‚

Five things I don’t want to do without on a daily basis:

    1) My dog
    2) The internet (have to keep in touch with friends, update the Dish, follow the news, etc.)
    3) My Kindle
    4) Water (I drink a lot of water!)
    5) My current obsession: Yasso Sea Salt Caramel Frozen Greek Yogurt Bars. So, so good!

Bonus: After a lovely “breakfast for lunch” outing with a good friend today I’m adding one more item: a bacon, tomato and avocado omelet. I’m addicted! πŸ™‚

  • Becke says:

    Joan,
Fun question. We all have those little things that soothe the savage beast.

1- the DH, who listens to my rant and gently points out it’s over, past, let it go.

    2-hot tea-warm and soothing

3-good books to take me away

4-hugs, especially from the tiny arms of the grandchildren

5-an unconditionally loving Moyen poodle named Sammy

And that dear friends is only the tip of the iceberg.

So good to count those many blessings
    b

    • Joan Kayse says:

Ok, so could your DH leave a voicemail for me EVERY day, oh say until I RETIRE?!!

What’s a Moyen poodle? I just met a Tibetan an Terrier cute dog but I insulted the doggy parent by asking “Terrier Mix?” :0

      • Becke says:

A Moyen is between a miniature and a standard poodle. He weighs around 25 pounds. Poodles are in the following sizes:
        Teacup
        toy
        miniature
        moyen
        standard

  • Amy Conley says:

Hi Joan. My top must haves:

    1. Pepsi One
2.My cigs, sadly I still have this horrible habit. I’ve tried everything to stop and haven’t had anything work.
    3. My books.
    4. My grands πŸ™‚
    5. Junk food.

I will admit I LOVE getting a pedicure, but I have to drive so far to get them. I do spoil myself several times a year and get them though.
