Holiday Twists

I love the holidays and am a big fan of traditions.  But sometimes, twists are even better.  I have been laughing so hard at the various videos and memes out this season that either twist, tweak or simply torture those traditions.  They are so fun, and better, funny!  I think thats one of my favorite joys of the holiday season–the laughter and lighthearted fun.

Here are a few of my favorites.

I adore all things Star Trek:TGN and giggled my way through watching this (four or five times), then had an almost uncontrollable urge to start watching the entire 7 seasons.  But we’re in holiday movie mode right now, so I decided to hold off on my Picard love until the new year.  Although I am watching the Patrick Stewart version of A Christmas Carol tomorrow.   evil elf

I shared this meme with my sister-in-law with instructions to hide it from my niece, who loves the Elf on a Shelf tradition.  I’m having more fun watching the mocking of the Elf on a Shelf than having anything else.  whore in a drawerAnd then there’s the alternate to Elf on a Shelf (sorry, I know it’s totally inappropriate but I laugh like crazy whenever I see it) Whore in a Drawer.

There are a lot of holiday light memes floating around. The palm tree one makes me snicker every time I see it but I figured I was pushing the bounds of politeness posting Whore in a Drawer so I figured I wouldn’t post that one (you can google it though *g*). xmas lights So here’s a fun light meme that I’d love to do some year!

xmas cat And then there are those holiday truisms, like cats and trees are a combination for a funny mess.

And, okay, this is from last year apparently but I just saw it this week so I had to share.  Vrai Anna, this ones for you!!!

Are there any twists on tradition videos or memes that you’ve enjoyed this season?

And since I’m heading into the cave until the end of the month, I’m sending you all Holiday Hugs and Happy Wishes!! I hope your season is filled with joy, laughter and fun.

I’m not much of a You Tube-er either, Helen, but my daughters keep sending me the most darling things.

One was two little kids arguing about the weather and one girl gets very aggressive and pokes the little boy in the chest. He says, “Oh, you poked my heart.”

So darling. We’re suckers for little kids cute actions and sayings.

    • Tawny Weber says:

I’m glad you enjoyed them, Helen, my kids and I did, too 🙂

I’m rarely on YouTube myself, but people post a lot of these over on Facebook and I always seem to get sucked into watching because they make me laugh 🙂

      Happy Holidays!!

    Hello Tawny,
I love Patrick Stewart. I don’t really seek these videos out unless someone sends a link to me.

    • Tawny Weber says:

HI Jane 🙂 I’m always seeing links on Facebook but usually manage to resist looking at a lot of them. But if it has Patrick Stewart in it, I have to watch.

  • Amy Conley says:

Tawny, I really don’t do the twists and tweeks either.

Don’t wear yourself out in the cave.

Merry Christmas and a greag 2015.

  • flchen1 says:

Tawny, those made me giggle! I do enjoy Patrick Stewart and Star Trek–that was definitely a good one! No Elf on the Shelf for us though 😀 I’m sure all our days would be about the poor elf meeting an untimely end 😉

    • Tawny Weber says:

LOL Fedora. I could actually get into a holiday filled with ways to do away with that elf. Which is a horrible thing to admit, but he does kinda creep me out.

I’m glad you enjoyed the vids 😉 Patrick Stewart rocks!

  • Shannon says:

Oh, I love the Elf on a Shelf. But I don’t have the pieces to carry that off for our work decorations. Which reminds me to find the other lights since the guys at the office want to do something with lights.

My twist is to take a perfectly good Christmas carol and write work appropriate lyrics to it. Poor Christmas Carol. I don’t even sing but I think I have two guys into doing it. I knew they were probably going to do it when they come to me, saying they need approval for changes. Yes!

  • LOL Tawny – I love this post. Hadn’t seen the Patrick Stewart video. That’s cute. Love the cat singing the unique rendition of Oh, Christmas Tree (and so true). Loved the reminder of the Whore in a Drawer. 🙂 Hadn’t seen the penguins in Santa suits before – but that’s cute.

I can’t think of any twists on tradition. But if you’re heading into the cave, I wanted to wish you a Merry Christmas. And Tawny – Make it so!

    • Tawny Weber says:

😀 Thanks, Donna. I had fun pulling together my favorites that I’d seen so far this year. They get cleverer and cleverer each year, too.

Pretty sure it’s going to be hard to top Picard, though.

Hugs and thanks – and Merry Christmas 🙂

  • The GR is headed to Oz to get out of the cold!!

What a great way to start the morning. Too funny! And I am SO sharing Whore in a Drawer with the gals at work. We were all looking at the Palm Tree one on someone’s Iphone and one of the older ladies kept looking at it and saying “What’s so funny?” By the time she got it we were all laughing so hard we couldn’t talk.

LOVED the Patrick Steward one. I’m a huge fan. And playing the cat one causes dogs to appear from all over the house. I have an electronic dog that barks Christmas carols. He sits on my mantel for his own safety because my dogs HATE him!

    • Tawny Weber says:

ROFL Louisa! Sometimes its even more fun to watch other people’s reactions than to enjoy our own, isn’t it 🙂 I can just imagine the woman’s face when she ‘got it’ *ggg*.

I snicker every time I see the whore in a drawer, poor Barbie LOL.

Awww for your dogs 😀 We have one ornament that barks Jingle Bells but yeah, we have to be careful when we play it. The dogs will rush the tree. I can sympathize with your dogs LOL

  • catslady says:

I watch so many that everything becomes a blur lol. But I’ve watched that Star Trek more than once and the penguins are new to me – so cute lol.

    • Tawny Weber says:

There are some fun ones out there, but yes, like you say they all do blur together after awhile. I’m glad I could find a new one for you, though 😉

  • Jo Robertson says:

Ah, Tawny, such a delightful post to wake up to this Sunday morning! I love Patrick Stewart and was fortunate to watch him play Shylock on the London stage (not literally, but in a video). Still, sexiest bald man ever!

I love these memes (I have a hard time with that word, though, even though it’s been around a long time). The internet has given it new meaning, I think and I enjoy these little parodies, sketches, or other cultural references.

    • Tawny Weber says:

Oh, Jo! I’m having Patrick Stewart envy 🙂 I’ll bet he was amazing on stage, even in video. He’s definitely my favorite sexy bald man, too.

Have you watched any of the videos with he and Ian McKlellan together? They are SO awesome to watch!!!
      http://youtu.be/wCMCifwQVC8

this is one of my favorites of them playing the Newlywed Game 🙂

The internet has opened huge new worlds, hasn’t it 🙂 I’ll always be grateful since it brought us together, but there is probably a few things out there I’d rather have not seen *ggg*

  • Gale Sroelov says:

OMG, I love the mall but the TNG one? Priceless! Happy holidays to all (and I have the urge to say: and to all a good night!) :>)

  • Sally Schmidt says:

Thanks, so funny. My daughter and I have a running argument Kirk vs. Picard. She will love the video. And the penguins are adorable.

  • That Star Trek one is a hoot, especially, “Shut up, Wesley!” 🙂
