Giving Thanks

IMAG0225_resizedYesterday was the official holiday of Thanksgiving in the US. Many people celebrate it with food, family and football, mine included. But the idea of giving thanks daily is one that perhaps we should all embrace.

When my son, Eric was a kid, oh, about 6 or 7 years old, he loved to hold the door for people while we waited for a table at a local restaurant. One day we had an interesting conversation.

Eric: Mom, there are two kinds of people in the world.

Me: Oh? What do you mean?

Eric: There’s the kind that when you hold the door open, they just walk by and don’t say anything.

Me: and the other kind?

Eric, with a smile: Those are the ones who say thank you.

Such wisdom from such a young person.

THANK YOU SQUIRRELWhen I was still working night shift I realized on a particularly hard shift, full of laboring patients, crabby family members and doctors who’d rather be home in bed, that the nursing staff was always polite. We said please every time we asked for help. We said thank you even if the other person didn’t deserve our courtesies. Why? Because we were used to being up all night, used to working with little sleep or with those who hadn’t been able to sleep much before coming to work. Funny how saying please and especially thank you kept us from jumping down each others’ throats. How that little act of kindness–to be thankful for that other person being there, even if for a moment or in the deepest clusterf**k–could keep our spirits up.

So in that spirit of continuing to give thanks, I say THANK YOU, dear readers. Those of you who stop by everyday to see what kind of zaniness is happening in the Lair. Those that comment, those that don’t. Those of you who support the Romance Bandits by buying our books, leaving reviews, popping up on our Facebook pages, tweeting with us. WE APPRECIATE YOU!!

suephotoTo my fellow Bandits, I say THANK YOU! Thank you for going on this wonderful journey into the world of writing and publishing with me. Thank you for being there to listen when things are hard, share a laugh when one of us does or says something outrageous. Thank you for buying each others books and promoting them!! I APPRECIATE YOU!!

    Is he mine?

  • Amy Conley says:

Suz, THANK YOU and all the Bandits for making us laugh, cry, think, and feel.

  • Shannon says:

Congratulations Amy. The GR probably loves leftovers!

I do try to come up with three things at the end of each day that I’m thankful for. November is one of those busy months for me so I haven’t been really good about it. Actually to the contrary, I have complained about what I’m not grateful for. So for today, I will list three things I’m grateful for: this blog and the internet that assures me that there are authors who love their readers and lots of other readers of romances. my local coffee shop with its huge windows and friendly staff who let me sit for an hour or two. my friends who connect me to the real world. And a fourth, I’m really, really glad to be able to be off work on a day where I usually pretend to work and spend way to much time chatting and surfing the internet because there’s few (none?) seniors to push work forward; Monday will see a flurry to get things done before Christmas.

Thank YOU, Suzanne and ALL the Banditas and Buddies for this wonderful community that puts a smile on my face every day, and for filling our lives with happily-ever-afters that are sorely needed in this day and age. You will never know how very much what you do is needed and appreciated.

    • EC,

We get as much joy at being here to chat with y’all! And I think everyone of us believes whole heartedly in the power the hope of HEA’s can have in not only your lives, but ours, too! So glad we could share that with you!! 🙂

Suz, thank YOU! I pop in at the Lair every day. I don’t always comment like I used to do so, but I love reading the posts and comments. I don’t know any of you on a in-person basis, but that doesn’t mean I don’t consider you all friends. You certainly have made me laugh, cry, ponder things. I truly think the Lair and the people here are the BEST!

    With affection,

And we readers thank you guys too!!! Such an easy thing to do to say thank you or smile and it doesn’t cost a penny!!!!

  • Suz, hope you and your family had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I love that little snippet of Eric wisdom! How true.

Must say I get annoyed if people don’t say thank you. Doesn’t cost anything to be polite, you know?

I’m definitely thankful for the lovely friendships I’ve made through the lair and social media generally. And I’m certainly grateful that so many of you have picked up the books and enjoyed them. You’re all the best!

  • Sally Schmidt says:

Thanks for the blog and the books. Love both!

  • I am so thankful for the Romance Bandits Lair. It is my home away from home. I have made so many dear friends here, many of whom I have never met in person. There are times the Romance Bandits and Buddies get me through when nothing else can.

I love the books, the authors, the buddies, the GR and most of all the fun and understanding we experience here.

    Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays!
