No, I am
not going to make you read a blog about all the beautiful women who portrayed love interests (not sure love is the right word here) for James Bond. The women are only there for the men who watch the movies. But the real action is Bond, James Bond.
Yes, I am a Bond girl. I love James Bond.
007 is the type of man who women love and men want to be. But seriously, why?
What
is the draw of Bond. Of course, he does have the look—sophisticated and debonair. He knows how to shoot a gun, blow up things, and get the girl. He doesn’t look too bad in a tuxedo either. Sigh….
So what’s not to love?
I went to see Skyfall last weekend with my son. I won’t spoil the movie but I have to say it was my favorite of the Bond franchise. The way Daniel Craig portrays Bond is so different. He is much darker than the other Bonds, which I think makes him so much more interesting. And he is Daniel Craig. Sigh….
Throu
ghout the years, I’ve seem almost all of the Bond movies. Having two sons makes it inevitable, I think. But as I wrote this, I discovered something, or rather someone, I never knew, and his name was George Lazenby. Apparently, George (pictured here on the right) started in one Bond movie, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service in 1969. I had no idea. Now I have to find this movie and see it.
So are you a Bond girl (or a fan if you are a male reader)?
Who is your favorite actor who portrayed him? If you don’t enjoy the movies, I must know why.
Comments
I am a Bond girl. I was skeptical when they cast Daniel Craig, but he really blew me away in “Casino Royale.” He is definitely my favorite Bond, but I also like Pierce Brosnan. My brother really likes Timothy Dalton.
Hey, Jane, do you think the rooster could carry off the James Bond role? No, I didn’t think so either. I do however think he’d make a wonderful villain!
Jane – I was skeptical about Craig as well – but when he came out of the water in that swim suit, he won me over
Congrats on the rooster nab!
Jane, I was in the skeptic crowd too with Craig. But I just love the way he plays a darker Bond. It is so much more intriguing to me. Plus it seems as if they are giving him more backstory which helps see why he is who he is.
Have a good time with the GR today!
Christie, dying to see Skyfall. I hear it’s absolutely amazing. I don’t think it opens here until Boxing Day (please correct me if I’m wrong, Aussies). Going to the latest James Bond with my Dad and my brother was a family tradition when I was growing up so I think that partly explains my fondness fof the films. Mind you, there are some great puns! Loved Casino Royale but I have to say, for me, Bond is still Sean C.
Anna
I think it opens on Nov 22 here I saw Daniel Craig interviewed on the news
Have Fun
Helen
Thanks for clearing that up, Helen. I couldn’t believe it would be opening that late.
Anna, I always liked Connery too but Craig has completely won me over now.
Christie
The last Bond movie I saw was one with Roger Moore as Bond LOL we used to go and see them at the movies years ago but not anymore I am sure Hubby watches them when they come on pay TV but seeing as how I read all the time I don’t watch them I must catch up with them LOL because I did always enjoy them.
The new one opens here in Australia on Nov 22 Daniel Craig was here last night for a pemier of the movie in Sydney and I did see him interviewed on the red carpet in the news very nice.
Have Fun
Helen
Helen, this one is worth seeing. But if you haven’t seen a Bond movie since Roger Moore, you might want to catch up on a few first
George Lazenby was /is ? an Australian, quite hilarious really that a quintessentially English hero was played by an Aussie, so of course he’s my fave.
I’m no longer a Bond girl though, I believe that Jack Reacher (the book character NOT the movie version) is the new 21st century hero.
George Lazenby may have been an Aussie but Brosnan was an Irishman so go figure.
I don’t know Jack Reacher so I’ll have to go look those books up.
Sean Connery was the first Bond I ever saw and no one else has ever quite measured up to him in my eyes. I haven’t seen any of the Daniel Craig movies yet, so I’m not sure whether he might topple Sean as my no. 1 Bond.
Craig toppled Conney in my book. But I think part of that are the scripts for his movies. They are evolving by giving him more backstory and making him a little darker.
Sean Connery has got that twinkle in his eye that I can’t go past.
I agree about Daniel Craig being darker, but I love that he’s put his own stamp on Bond, James Bond.
You can’t beat Sean’s twinkling eyes. His eyes and Brosnan’s are gorgeous.
I really liked Roger Moore, I liked him as “The Saint” as well. Loved Pierce Brosnan in just about anything he played in but Remington Steele was my favorite role for him. When all is said and done though, Sean Connery did Bond like no other.
Dianna, I used to feel that way too but Craig has blown me away. I was really getting tired of the Bond movies until he came around.
We (husband, daughter and I) saw Skyfall last Saturday. It’s so unlike the previous Bond movies. Bond is a bit more vulnerable – but I did enjoy it.
Hoping to see Lincoln this weekend. I do love going to the movies and sitting in the dark with my dh (and filching some of his papcorn – grin).
LOL about the popcorn. I went with my 15 year old who always insists on a large popcorn and then he growls when I take some.
I’ve been addicted to these movies since the very first one was released. (Yes, I’m really that old.) lol! Sean Connery was my first Bond which is probably one of the reasons why he’s still my favorite. He’s closely followed by Pierce Brosnan who could read the phone book and make me sigh. ::grin::
There’s a reason Lazenby only did one Bond movie. I adore 007 but that movie? I wanted to walk out of the theater after about 20 minutes.
Donna, I’m going to see Lincoln this weekend too. It looks really good!
LOL PJ, I definitely won’t pay to see Lazenby’s movie. I’ll have to wait until F/X runs a Bond marathon and see if they air it. It will probably run at 3am
I’ve seen the Bond movies but cannot say I would jump up and down to see them again. However, my husband is more of a Bond fan and I asked him who is favorite is. His response: “It’s Sean Connery, hands down. One reason is because he was cool before the other actors knew how to act the role.”
Connie, your husband’s right. Connery made Bond who is he today. I just like that Craig is putting his stamp on him too.
Ah, Christie…love, love, LOVE Bond movies. LIke you I went to see it last weekend with my son. (He took me for my birthday present!) Loved this one, too.
I’ve had three favorite Bonds:
1. Daniel Craig…dark and gritty
2. Sean Connery…debonair and sexy
3. Pierce Brosnan…tongue in cheek humor
And that’s the order I like them in.
That’s my order of favorites too!
My first Bond movie in the theater was THE SPY WHO LOVED ME. What’s not to love about its opening sequence? Even my kids think the Union Jack parachute is cool. It’s hard to identify which actor was best because each embraced the role in different eras. I just love the over the top action and gadgets!
I think The Spy Who Loved Me was the first I saw in the theaters too. Before that, I just saw them when they aired them on TV.
I don’t get to too many movies but my husband picked it as his birthday movie. There were 5 of us and we all enjoyed it, even my oldest daughter who doesn’t usually like them. I have to say I like Sean Connery the best but Daniel Craig comes in second beating out Pierce Brosnan lol.
I’m back and forth between Connery and Craig, but I really think it’s Craig for me.
Wasn’t Skyfall wonderful! – was surprised they didn’t play Adele’s song at the end of the movie too. My favorite Bond is Daniel Craig in Casino Royale, followed by him in Skyfall, followed by Pierce Brosnan. Still enjoy Sean Connery (but a lot of those films are so dated) & even Roger Moore (but he played Bond a lot lighter).
Diane, I think I like Skyfall the best so far of Craig’s movies.
It’s the gadgets! I love the gadgets… and the cars… who doesn’t love the cars.
Actually my late-Uncle owned an Austen Heely… a very nice car; but it was before my time.
And my favourite Bond? Well, the original of course! Sean Connery! Who else? And in Dr. No… do you notice, he’s got two tattoos he’s just hiding on his arms? Do you know what they say? I do (as I’ve read his biography). On one arm, he’s got ‘Mother’ and on the other is ‘Scotland’… his two great loves.
I wasn’t a fan until Daniel Craig. Love him! Now I see the attraction – and it’s mine!!!
My favourite Bond has always been David Niven in the first Casino Royale. It always makes me laugh till the tears come..
