A Few of My Favorite Things….

photoWell, another year older! Wow, 2015 just flew by.  So I got to thinking about what have been my favorite things this year.  Lots of fun stuff this summer – swimming, baseball, a little travel.  Gorgeous fall leaves.  Winter’s coming on so I’m even happier, because as you all know I adore Winter and cold weather.

It’s time for sweaters and scarves and the best stuff ever, in my opinion – SNOW!  And FOOTBALL!  And sweatshirts.  Fuzzy sweaters.  Snow Creme.  Sledding.  Yay!!!

Can you tell that I love the Winter?

And the holidays are here.  Hanukkah started on Sunday.  Yule and Kwanzaa are coming and Christmas too.  I already have lonnnng Christmas lists from my sons.  I’m trying to drag a Christmas list out of my husband.  Me?  I’ve got one too.  Bwahahah.  IMG_3649

It’s always weird to have a birthday in December, though.  It gets all mixed up with the Holidays and holiday parties and the bruhahah of celebrations that have nothing to do with birthdays.  Some people with December birthdays have a “half-birthday” in a summer month, just so it can be about them.  Grins.  I’ve never done that, but it does have some merit.

My boys brought me cards and prezzies in bed this morning before they left for school.  I got books – YES! – from the Hubs and my Sister.  These aren’t just any books, either.  These are RESEARCH books.  Ahhhhhhh!!  The delicious “rabbit hole” of research!  This is Genealogy IMG_3648research.  The never-ending story of family going back into the dimly lit corridors of history.  Sweeeeet!!  It’s a lure I can hardly resist.  And I have to say that the New England Genealogical and Historical Society has the BEST research libraries and book selections evah!!

Then there’s my brother and his lady-love who showered me with absolutely fantastic Carolina Panthers gear.  I’m SO loving that my Beloved Panthers are 12-0!  WOOHOOO!!!  Cam Newton for MVP!!  WOOT!!  (I know PJ Audensmore will be shouting that with me.  Ha!  And probably Banditas Nancy and Caren too, my NC gal-pals.  Go Panthers!  #KeepPounding is their hastag on Twitter, so go on and celebrate that, ladies and gents because I’m thinkin’ you’ll be seeing a LOT of it for the next month or so!

What do you think of my seriously bling-ed out hat?  Pretty cool, right?  And the scarves are just my thing!

I want to go ahead, too, and thank all of you who’ve already lit up my FB pages with birthday wishes!  Y’all rock!!

It surely does make a woman feel special to have people remember a birthday.  It really does.  000syz26

Now for the Christmas decorating.  I like to wait until today to do it.  It kinda makes the birthday festive to decorate the house, so I add that to my birthday repertoire.  We’re going to go tonight and get a tree, yay!  (After my boys take me to dinner…)

So how’s your holiday going?  Are you getting prepared and geared up for the 12 Bandita Days of Christmas????  That starts on the 14th!!  WOOHOO!!

Have you gotten a tree yet?  Or are you about to light the third light on the Menorah?

What are you hoping to get for the holidays?  A new XBox for that game system you secretly want to play? Grins.  World of Warcraft, anyone?  Or a new book by a favorite author? How are you going to fill that new Kindle?

If you have a December birthday, do you do a half-birthday in the summer?

Does your birthday get lost, if you’ve got one at a major holiday, like Christmas or Thanksgiving or Fourth of July?  Or does your family work to make it special?

PS – I threw in the gratuitous beefcake picture just because…well, just because.  Slurp!

    Happy Birthday Evil Twin!

I love that blinged out hat.

My Hilltoppers are kinda rockin the football this year, and if I could bet a Hilltopper hat with bling like that on it….Mmmmmmm Mmmmmm… Yep I would so do it.

My birthday isn’t near any holidays so I don’t have to share it, though I do share it with my mother, but that’s always been nice.

Baby kittens in the house, so I dunno if we’ll do a tree or not. Might be setting ourselves up for a stressful season. *grin*

    Happy Birthday again!

    • Jeanne Adams says:

Hey Evil Twin! Oooh, Hilltopper Football – YAY! Love that. And having a bling-out hat is total fun. Hope they have one. Grins.

Snorking over the thought of the kittens and a tree. Hmmmm….yes, that might be a stressful thing. DId you see Joanie T’s “Topper” of Greyson-the-cat? Ha! She put up her tree and Greyson topped it right away. Snork!!

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! I share mine with a great aunt and an aunt-by-marriage, so it’s kinda fun for me too!

Happy Birthday!! Mine is 11/29 and usually gets lumped in with Thanksgiving. I did celebrate it once in July because it just kept getting too complicated to find a day to celebrate with my grown family – it was nice but strange lol. Just got our tree and will be decorating it this weekend. I usually have a party but my daughter had it this year with her new husband and the bigger house that they just got. I’ve bought like 2 gifts so far so need to get moving lol.

    • Jeanne Adams says:

Oooh, Catslady, don’t even talk to me about present-buying. I’ve only gotten a couple as well, and need to get on the stick! Grins.

I’ll bet it was strange to celebrate your birthday in July. :> I may try it sometime.

      Happy Holidays to you!!

  • Jeanne, Happy Birthday!

We won’t start our Christmas decorating until the boy gets home, which is later in the month. I have no list from him or his dad, and I really despise shopping late in the month. The closer to Christmas, the more insane the crowds (and the more picked-over the offerings).

The dh put lights on the porch, and that’s all we’ll do, except maybe start on cards and fruitcake, until our offspring arrives.

My birthday isn’t close to a holiday, so it never gets lost.

    • Jeanne Adams says:

Hey Nancy! My pal who’s daughter gets home on the 19th, got her tree at Thanksgiving and made her offspring help decorate before going back to school. Grins.

I’ll bet you’ll get a good list from The Boy, but if your DH is like mine, it’ll be like pulling rusty nails to get one from your hubby. :>

What’s on your list this year?

  • Helen says:

    Helen

    • Jeanne Adams says:

Oooh! Christmas cakes! I hope you’ll post pictures of them on Facebook, Helen! :> And your grandsons cannot be 7. They were just born yesterday….right? Grins. (I think this all the time about my tall 15-year-old!)

    Hello Jeanne,
Love your Panthers gear. More dancing Cam. Loved watching the Patriots lose two games in a row. That pic of Cap makes me want to watch the Captain America Civil War again. Artificial tree for us. I would love a real tree, but it’s expensive and a hassle to dispose of in the city. I would mind seeing some Star Wars gear under the tree.

    • Jeanne Adams says:

YAY! Someone else who loved seeing the Patriots lose!! Grins. That Eagles game….ahhh! A thing of beauty. Grins.

I just had to put in the bit about Cap. Such sex appeal, all that integrity. Grins.

  • Happy Birthday, Jeanne!!!

My birthday is October 24th when the house is decorated with witches – LOL. These days my entire family goes out to dinner before we come home to cake and pressies.

Normally my entire house is decorated for Christmas before Thanksgiving. I love the Christmas decorations (some stay up all year) and having it done just reduces the December stress. This year though, due to the floor situation, we couldn’t decorate till last week. I still haven’t moved everything back to where it’s supposed to be. Oh well.

Hope you have a great celebration this year and every year for a long, long time 🙂

    • Jeanne Adams says:

Thank you so much, dear friend! So glad your floors are getting back to normal and you can get everything back in place. I know it was a pain, but from the pics you posted its beautiful!!

Had to LOL about the house being decorated with witches for your birthday. I’d probably prefer that. Snork!

  • Happy Birthday my fellow December Duchess !! Having a birthday four days after Christmas can be a real drag ! When I was growing up I never had a party because who wanted a party four days after Christmas? To add insult to injury, my birthday is on inventory day this month. I will spend several hours of my birthday in a walk-in freezer. Sigh!

My tree is up. And I do mean up. I have it on top of the television hutch. It is only about four feet tall, but having a big tree on the floor is NOT a good idea with all of the dogs and Miss Rebecca Marie the cat. Rebecca is over ten now and mature enough not to jump onto the television hutch to attack the blinking lights. My male dogs, however, cannot be trusted around anything that resembles a tree! I love decorating my tree because many of my ornaments are those I picked up on my travels. Others are brass ornaments with the names of pets who are celebrating Christmas on the other side of the Rainbow Bridge.

My Christmas list includes – books, books, bookshelves, and let me see – more books !!

    • Jeanne Adams says:

Hey gal! Had to LOL about the dogs and the tree. I was lucky enough that my male dogs never decorated the tree with anything but dog hair. Grins. One of my cats, now over the bridge, used to pick one ornament. Just the one. But she loved it. It was a carved wooden bell with a bell inside. She would pluck it off the tree every other night or so, around 1 in the morning, and roll it around on the floor. Grins. Thunk! Ding, ding, ding, ding! Snork. I hope she has had great fun with many like it on the other side. I have Siameses on the tree for her and for my other Siamese cat – Saja and Mocha. I also have bone-shaped ornaments for all my friends who’ve crossed too. :> I’ll need a new one, this year, alas.
But on a fun note, we may be getting an Irish Water Spaniel pup after the new year! Yay!
So sorry about the freezer, btw…

Happy, Happy Birthday, Jeanne!!!!! I am so glad you had a great start to your special day!!

My birthday is 9-11. Yes, but I had it first. Anyway, wow, what a very depressing and weird birthday that was so many years ago.

My sister can relate to the Christmas birthday month. Hers is December 22, and our aunt always gave her a present and said, “Happy Birthday, Merry Christmas.” However, my other sister and I got presents on our birthdays and on Christmas.

I soooooo, sooooo, soooo need my Christmas break this year, as busy as it will be. Just let’s say that my class this year is challenging. And, the documentation and paper work….

I am having minor surgery on Dec. 30th. A freaking kidney stone that won’t dissolve. Yay, not.

I love Christmas. My tree this year is pretty with the addition of 20 little 1-inch red stars (you slip them over the lights) sprinkled here and there around the tree. Very pretty.

    Happy Birthday, and big hugs!!

    • Jeanne Adams says:

Oooh, I’ll bet that’s GORGEOUS with the red stars. How cool!
So sorry about the minor surgery, but if it won’t dissolve…yeah. So NOT fun.
Had to LOL about the paperwork and all that. Ugh. My Youngest son’s class – 5th grade – has that challenging aspect. Yeah….trouble.
Thanks for all the birthday wishes!!

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY, Jeanne! I know about holiday birthdays, mine is Jan2nd and NO ONE ever wants to do anything except recoup. My daughter’s birthday is Jan 1st, but at least she can go out New Year’s Eve with friends and loved ones and at midnight, they are wishing her a Happy Birthday. When she was little she always had a slumber party for her birthday. I made sure her birthday was always separate from the holiday itself. When my mother was alive she always made sure I had a “birthday” also.
We don’t have a tree up yet, not sure which I will put up. Since Christmas without my Mother or Mother-in-law are still both fresh to all of us, it makes it a bit harder. I also have a new daughter-in-law who never really celebrated Christmas with a tree (she’s from Panama), but she did give us a new grandson this year, and I hate for him to miss out on his American side Christmas. Our family has also grown by 4 feet this past year when my 50 year old sister, yes, you read that correctly, 50 years old, had twins, Evan and Edie in late Sept, so this will also be their first Christmas! I feel caught between a rock and a hard place between the loses and the gains.
