mountainviewfromcoopershawkI’m SO excited!  It’s OCTOBER!!!  WOOT!!!

Thanks for popping in today.  I’m in the throes of getting the house decorated.  See the typewriter below?  It’s a “Haunted Typewriter” from Grandin Road – they have the BEST Halloween stuff!!   It “spirit-types” HELP over and over.  Perfect for a Halloween-obsessed writer!  Grins.

Stormy weather and book deadlines have me a few days behind, but it’ll be up by the end of the weekend.  Grins.  (I’m waiting till Monday to do the outside since Sunday is supposed to be windy and rainy. )

But I’m getting a start inside between Capclave and watching my Eldest play baseball.  Eldest and the Hubs are in south Florida.  Yes, Florida.  They’re at a tournament and I can only watch him play on GameChanger – a fabulous pitch-by-pitch realtime computer interface.  It’s almost–almost!– like being there except I can’t whistle, yell, and clap encouragement.

Well, I CAN, but they can’t hear me.  Ha!haunted-typewriter

So, decorating, watching baseball and doing panels at the AMAZING local Fantasy Con called CapClave.  I am so thrilled to be a part of CapClave this year.  What a great group of people!  I had my first panel this morning with the guest of honor, Sarah Beth Durst.  What a fun person!!  And a great YA writer if you’re looking for a super YA fantasy read!

We were on a panel talking about where authors get their ideas.  I think that’s a funny question, because, as another panelist said, my problem is how do you stop them from coming long enough to WRITE them!?!?  Ha!  However, it was fascinating to hear how ideas and concepts came to the other panelists.  (Dreams, articles, tv shows, other books, fairy tales, and “what-if” scenarios…)thewitcheswalkfinal

I’m part of another panel later in the day about climate change, and last thing tonight, I get to join the wonderful ladies from BroadUniverse for a Rapid Fire Reading.  If you’re not familiar with either Broad Universe, or RFRs, these are too fun!  The Broads, as they’re affectionately known, are women who write speculative fiction.  Rapid Fire Readings are a session where authors read from their latest works or works in progress.

I’m reading from the Witches Walk.  So excited!!

Of course, I’ll have to be checking my phone tonight because the Cubs and Giants are playing….Let’s Go, Cubbies!!  I know Suz will be watching the Indians.

It’s a great time of the year….football, baseball, books, Halloween, trick-or-treati

ng (chocolate!), and spooky stories.  What’s not to love?

Are you decorating for Halloween?

If you like football, who do you root for?

If you’re a baseball fan, is your team fighting for a spot, or done, or in the hunt?

Time for pumpkin pie!!  (And maybe a food fight with Cassondra….Bwahahahah!)

I am excited about The Witches Walk, I have it but haven’t started it yet. Waiting for life to settle so I can enjoy every word!

  • Jane says:

    Hello Jeanne,
Haven’t stared decorating yet, but we’re finally going apple picking next Saturday and I’m hoping to see if they’ll have pumpkins for sale, too. They’re probably going to be cheaper than if I buy them in the city. I’m a NY Yankees and NY Giants fan, but I’ll be rooting for the SF Giants and Dodgers.

    • Jeanne Adams says:

Hey Jane!! I just started. I usually have most of my Halloween stuff up by Oct 3 or 4, but got delayed by travel this year. :> Oooh, Apple picking!! Love that. And yes, they’re almost always cheaper at the farm than at the grocery store.
I’d be rooting for the Giants – I’m distantly related to Madison Bumgarner! – if they weren’t playing the Cubs….

  • Pissenlit says:

I don’t decorate for it but I do try and wear something Halloween-y on Halloween.

Toronto Blue Jays!! Woo! We’ve got game 3 against the Texas Rangers tomorrow! Today? Whatever…Sunday. There’ll be an epic battle with my mum for the tv. She wants to watch your presidential debate. BUT BASEBALL!!! Like you said, live updates just aren’t the same. 🙁

    • Jeanne Adams says:

Pissenlit! WOOT for the BLUE JAYS!!! Such a good game.

I hope your mom skipped the debates. I couldn’t watch….I tried, but it made my skin crawl. :>

Glad you go for the costume on Halloween!!

  • I don’t decorate as I live in the middle of nowhere. My brother and his wife, however, after a two year hiatus have decided to decorate for Halloween this year. You must understand they do nothing by halves. Their house is at the end of a dirt road and people drive from miles around to see it when they decorate. The front yard is a cemetery. Their oak trees are hung with lights, dead bodies, ghouls and ghosties. They have a zombie butler on the front porch, a GIANT spider on the roof under a spotlight. I’m talking 1950’s old time horror movie giant spider. Damned thing spooks me and I like spiders. The list goes on and on. Their are junior league haunted houses that have serious decoration envy when they see Jim and Mindy’s house. It generally takes them a couple of weeks to decorate. They should be finishing up this weekend.

I am not a big baseball fan. I am a fan of college football. And in the state where I live it is a religion and one must choose sides. I am an Alabama fan. I have one brother who is an Alabama fan and the other brother is an Auburn fan.

Another perk to leaving Walmart? No Halloween decorations to look at the day after Labor Day and no pumpkin everything to have deal with in the bakery.

    • Jeanne Adams says:

My dear friend, while I adore decor, I’m SO GLAD you don’t have to be at that soul-sucking job!! :>

And two words: Roll Tide. Grins.

I would love Mindy and Jim, we are kindred spirits. Grins. I’m finishing up my decorating today. Ha!

  • Amy Conley says:

I don’t do sports, but my grandmother did so since she’s gone I have to back the Indians.

I don’t decorate for holidays much anymore. We live on a short, country, dead-end road so basically sees them. When my kids were little I went all out, now, not so much. I wear my witch everyday, and I’ll start wearing my GOOD WITCH t-shirt probably this week.

    • Jeanne Adams says:

WOOHOO!!! Bandita Suz will be happy that you’re rooting – even by association – for the Indians. Grins. She’s a huge fan. Ha!

Too cool about the good witch shirt!

  • Our Halloween decorations are up – except for the ghost lights that I’ll probably hang later today.

We’re rooting for the Cleveland Indians here. If it weren’t for the Browns, Cleveland would be having a fantastic sports year this year. Hoping the Indians go all the way! 🙂
