What’s up for January in the Bandit Lair?

2014 is here! I don’t do resolutions, but I will admit that  last year about this time, I set a goal. I wanted to laugh more. Smile more during 2013.  And I have! Sometimes it was just a matter of getting out an old I Love Lucy episode or choosing to go with my husband to his dental appointment, just because I know they keep a constant marathon of  Andy Griffith running on the tv in the waiting room.  I love Andy Griffith. If I had to, I went to Comedy Central on the internet, or one of the humor

The Shepherds Returned to Their Flocks

Dear Readers, I apologizing for republishing a post I wrote in December 2009, but I find it even more timely today as it was then.   I’m not particularly religious, but I’ve spent a number of years studying various religions and the King James Bible as literature. The Book of Luke in the Bible records the miracle of the birth of the Baby and includes the account of the shepherds. You know the story – the long trek to Bethlehem to be taxed, the no-room-in-the-inn scenario, the cave and the manger, the angels and the shepherds. Because angels with wings

With many, humble apologies for posting this so very late, the winner of Denise Rossetti’s contest is CATE S.!! Things I Ate

I’m not proud of myself.   Normally, I eat pretty cleanly.  Lots of fruit & veggies, heavy on the lean proteins.  I avoid refined sugar.  I’m trying like hell to break the ninja grip that nutra sweet has on my soul.  If there’s a whole-grain option, I take it. Except for this past week. This past week, I ate everything that landed in front of me. And it was delicious.   I feel like crap, of course.  I’m too old to eat like a teenager.  But the sugar-induced smile on my face won’t budge.   Here, in no particular order,

Series Obsessive.

Every so often I stumble upon a series on television long after it’s ended it’s showing. It all started with Pride and Prejudice. You know, the long version by A&E with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy. I watched each and every episode when it was rebroadcast several years after its original airing. My daughter Lyndsey and I couldn’t wait until every Monday evening for the next episode. A few years later her sister Alison gave me the entire series on VHS tapes so I could indulge them whenever I wanted. The next time I was sucked into a series was

Janet Mullany returns to the lair!

Hi Banditas, thanks so much for inviting me to blog and I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas or whatever you celebrate! My hot historical, A Certain Latitude, is a rewrite of a book that came out six years ago, and with my usual unerring marketing instincts I published it just in time for the holidays. There is one mention of Christmas. Someone dies. I’ve always considered Christmas regencies a bizarre invention of publishers since Regency folk (as far as I can tell, those wild party animals) spent the day at church, drank more than usual, and hung up a
