What Do You Wear?

One of the reasons I love Fall is that the winter fashions are advertised everywhere.  Boots, gloves, jaunty little hats, sweaters.  And coats — coats of all kinds.  Sleek long wool coats, leather jackets, puffy down jackets and raincoats, all accompanied by bright scarves.  Don’t forget the boots — ankle boots, thigh high zippered boots, knee boots.  And don’t get me started on the leggings! Even in high school, I loved winter clothing.  The standard high school issue was penny loafers and knee socks, wool skirts with stitched-down pleats from the waist to hip and sweaters — vee-necked, turtle necked,

I did it!

Hey, so remember last time we talked & I told you I was ready to get my hair cut off?  I did it! I really did.   So here on the left is all the hair I’d been wadding into a bun or a braid for the last five years or so. Over here on the right is me sitting in a beauty shop for the first time in five years.  I think I might’ve just remembered that somebody was going to wash my hair for me, & how much I like that.  I REALLY like that part.  How did

Giving Thanks

(((Psst, I’m in the kitchen!!))) You know, it’s Thanksgiving today here in the US. So while you’re taking part of your morning off to check out the antics here in the Lair, I’m in my kitchen cooking. Actually, I’ve been in it most of the week, since our family dinner takes me days to prepare. So, at the moment I’m probably making Oyster stuffing for my turkey, a requirement in this household and I thought I’d tell y’all a few things I’m thankful for. 1. Bad Plumbing. Yep, bad plumbing. Our house is nearly 50 years old and that means

Party Georgian Style with Vanessa Kelly

It’s Party time—Georgian Style! Vanessa Kelly  My thanks to Donna and all the Banditas for hosting me today!  I’m thrilled to be celebrating the start of my new historical romance series, The Renegade Royals, with you lovely ladies.  And what better way to kick off a celebration than with a lavish dinner party! Normally, I’d be setting the table Regency-style, and the four books in my new series are set smack in the middle of the Regency period.  But Lost in a Royal Kiss, the novella that kicks off the series, steps back a few dozen years to introduce some

Bookshops, Raindrops, and Roosters

The dh and I recently had a chance to take a trip that ordinarily wouldn’t have occurred to us.  He was attending a conference in Lisbon, Portugal, and an unusual set of circumstances made it possible for me to go along very affordably.  Considering that I’m an Anglophile and he’s a children’s lit professor, Lisbon wouldn’t normally have been on our radar.  But it is a very old city, and we all know I love those.  And of course, there was his conference. Neither of us speaks Portuguese, which was a source of some anxiety.  At least the euro operates

Breakfast Recipe Exchange

Blog Widget Browse Share Buy Let’s talk bonus content! I’m working on my website update for 2014. That is to say, I’m writing a lot of notes, which my fabulous webmaster will turn into an actual update. I’ve decided that I want to add a lot more bonus content for my readers, things like games and recipes and interactive book excerpt widgets, like this one for SECOND-CHANCE SEDUCTION, which will be out next month from Harlequin Desire. I also thought it would be fun to include pictures of things from my books. I have a Pinterest board for each book

They Call It Puppy Love…

…but they should call it KITTEN LOVE! In case you missed the dozens of pictures on Facebook, we adopted a kitten a couple of months ago Chez Crane. That wasn’t my idea, by the way. Our old cat, the infamous Chaps, passed away at the beginning of August. I was in no way ready for another cat. And then… …one day while I was off celebrating a friend’s birthday, a girl (now grown-ish) who grew up with our girls in the neighborhood found a recently-orphaned kitten outside the building where she works. Its litter-mate was dead nearby and, obviously, the

Thanksgiving Playlist Quick Five

Hi all! Thanksgiving is next week here in the states and we’ve already started planning the big feast.  Company will be coming and I thought I’d put together a playlist of Thanksgiving songs for a little background music while we’re eating. The problem is…there are no Thanksgiving songs.  Well, not very many that are purely devoted to Thanksgiving.  Heck, even the song I most associate with Thanksgiving – “Over the River and Through the Woods” (Originally written by Lydia Maria Child in 1844 titled “A Boy’s Thanksgiving Day”) has been rewritten to eliminate all mention of Thanksgiving.   Adam Sandler
